Sometimes slower is better - especially when it comes to the rate of protein digestion. While rapid protein absorption is desirable immediately before or after exercise, delayed release is probably more beneficial throughout the remainder of the day.

Casein proteins are pH sensitive and gel in the acidic environment of the stomach. As a result, it can take more than twice as long for caseins to be broken-down into their amino acid subcomponents than whey and other proteins. Because of these unique "time-released" qualities, caseins are aptly described as being anti-catabolic, or muscle-protecting, proteins.

No more bloatedness, , 15/05/2012, 10:59:58hrs

Casein is a better alternative to Whey and it doesn't cause bloatedness unlike Whey.

Had tried the chocolate flavour and I find it deliciously great :) Would be better if it dissolve easily.

Another great ON product !!!, , 21/06/2010, 13:03:19hrs

Unlike whey protein which is fast-absorbed. Casein is slow-absorbing because it forms gel when consumed. It is this advantage which is also a disadvantage, because it is difficult to mix casein in water, unless you have the blender facility, which I dont have. But thats what I wanted anyway, so I am fine with it. Those using just a shaker should watch out.

Customer also need to be aware of Casein lower protein biological value then egg white and whey.

Lower biological value, difficulty mixing problem apart, (and its comparitively higher price then whey protein) if all what you want is just a slow-absorbing protein source, then surely go for it.

I have always been a big fan of Optimum Nutrition products, so I would recommend ON Casein. I bought the supreme choclate flavour, and the tatse is great, just like Milo.

Great Sustained-Release Protein, , 08/05/2008, 13:57:08hrs
Reviewer: Jovi Castro,

This is a very good protein supplement to take; specially if you're like me, who takes around 30-40 grams of protein right after waking-up, before a workout and before going to sleep (I use Myoplex, or any Whey protein, after each workout). I used to take Pro-Complex before and it made my tummy bloat, whenever I take it at night. I don't consider Pro-Complex as a 'fast' protein, as it is not made entirely out of Whey. For a fact; whey is easily absorbed by the body and if you're going to take loads of it, better do it right after working out, or right after waking-up in the morning. Otherwise; you might lose your good view of your schlong. =P

If you want a sustained-release protein supplement, this is the product to take. No more worrying of getting a 'big' tummy, even if you take it before going to bed at night, or with a meal.

Great tasting too! Except that you would really need a blender, or a shaker, to fully enjoy it.

Get huge everywhere else, except your middle.
